Your business's federal tax ID
An EIN is commonly used to:
- Open a business bank account
- Hire employees
- File federal and state taxes
- Work with vendors and payment processors
- Establish your business's federal identity
Note: Banks may separately request an Operating Agreement (LLCs) or Corporate Bylaws (corporations). Those aren't required by the IRS to issue an EIN, but they're often needed for banking and internal governance.
